TATA Rio De Goa
Sometimes, life just takes you full circle. Rachel and I
have been married fiteen years. We shifted to Mumbai
years back, and have been there ever since. But the
draw of your hometown is far stronger than any life
that the city brings with it. So, after our kids started
working abroad, we decided to go back to where we
came from – Goa. If our lives were a movie, this would
be the part where they cut to some peppy guitar
music and cut-shots of beaches, paragliding, beer,
people in shorts riding bikes, looking tanned as it gets!
Oh and parties, how can we forget the parties!
So, shifting (at least for the time being) to a fantastic
plush apartment close to Dabolim didn’t seem as
bittersweet as we thought it would be. A week later,
here we are, in Goa, rediscovering a place that we
long since left behind.
First stop – FOOD! Being the insane foodie that I am, I
didn’t waste a single minute and headed straight down
A Goan Return
to the beaches for some freshly
caught prawns. These guys sure
know how to fry some good goan
masala! Couple that with a round of
beer and some salted cashews by the
beach, and you’re probably in the
best place you can possibly be!
Each evening, we let the cool breeze
run through our hair, take a stroll by
the church nearby and of course, the
customary evening soiree with the
neighbours – the place feels just like
home – a place we always belonged
to. And even when we have our
friends from Mumbai come over
during the summer for a visit as they
go across town partying, the one thing
that sticks with us is what we’re
always told – “Simon, Rachel, we’ve
travelled everywhere, but the one
place that draws us back is your
home.”, and we look at each other
thinking, the Goan Return was truly
worth it
